XXX Cycle - Achievement of the PhD Title


PhD title conferral

The PhD title is granted by the Rector at the end of the three years of the PhD course after the final exam; this is based on a written dissertation (Thesis) which illustrates the scientific results obtained by the student during the PhD Course.

In order to be admitted to the final exam the candidate must provide a specific application form, sending it to the Rector.

PhD title conferral

  • Candidates must submit to the PhD Executive Committee (Giunta del Corso di Dottorato) a Final relation on the research and training activity carried out during the final year, which will be evaluated for the admission to the final exam.
  • In order to achieve the PhD title, candidates are asked to provide a Form for the admission to the final exam (Original Form in Italian "Domanda di Ammissione all'esame finale" - English translation) by the 31st of October 2017.
    The form must be sent via registered mail (posta raccomandata con ricevuta di ritorno) to the following address:Università degli Studi di Sassari, Piazza Università 21, 07100 Sassari. It can also be delivered to the Ufficio Protocollo, Piazza Università 21, 07100 Sassari
    The thesis title has to be mentioned into the Form. The thesis can be written in Italian or in any other European language.
  • The PhD Thesis has to be self-archived by the PhD student into the UnissResearch Institutional Archive ("Archivio istituzionale") http://eprints.uniss.it by the 15th of January 2018 for the candidates admitted to the first session of the final examination (or by the 10th of August 2018 for the candidates admitted to the second session of the final examination).
    In order to self-archive the Thesis, the following prior requirements are needed:
    1. the student must have a Username and Password to access to the University of Sassari Internet facilities.
    2. the student must be authorized to self-archive the Thesis on UnissResearch; the authorization has to be requested  by the 23th of November 2017 sending an e-mail to: sba@uniss.it . Please indicate the following subject: 'Richiesta abilitazione autodeposito UnissResearch' (Request for authorization to allow self-archiving into UnissResearch) and the following details into the e-mail text: PhD student name and surname; Tax code (Codice fiscale), Username assigned by "Ufficio Reti" to access to Uniss Internet facilities);
    3. the student must follow the instructions on “How to upload the PhD Thesis” available on http://eprints.uniss.it/autodeposito_tesi.html

Please note that the Thesis should be compliant to the Italian and International copyright regulations, therefore if a PhD student inserts into the text complete articles published by an Editor, an authorization should be asked through a written request sent to the Editor. This request has to be handed to the UnissResearch Institutional Archive together with the Deposit Declaration and will be archived into the Institutional Archive.

  • The final PhD Thesis has to be also saved in electronic format on 2 CD-ROMs, both containing two files:
    1. The final Thesis, including the following sections: dissertation, cover, attachments and appendixes; the format has to be PDF/A. This file has to be the same as the one delivered to the UnissResearch Institutional Archive (Archivio istituzionale) and has to mention at the bottom of each page (excluding the cover page) the following details: Author Name and Surname, Thesis title, PhD Thesis in _____, Università degli studi di Sassari.
    2. An Abstract of the Thesis in English language (maximum 1.500 characters space included).
    On the CD-ROMs and on the CD covers the following information must be written:
  1. Name of the PhD Course and Cycle number (“XXX ciclo”);
  2. PhD student name and surname;
  3. PhD Thesis title.
  • The first CD-ROM mentioned above and a specific Form named Thesis delivery declaration - (Original Italian Form "Dichiarazione di deposito della tesi" - English Translation) must be delivered, by the 15th of January 2018 for the candidates admitted to the first session of the final examination or by the 10th of August 2018 for the candidates admitted to the second session of the final examination, to the Coordinamento dei Servizi Bibliotecari, Viale Mancini n. 1 - 07100 Sassari (Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 12.30 PM) which will release a receipt.
  • The second CD-ROM, the receipt mentioned above and the Declaration of conformity of the content (Original Italian Form "Dichiarazione di conformità dei contenuti" - English Translation ) signed by the PhD Student, the tutor and the PhD Course Coordinator, must be handed out to the Higher Education Office, Palazzo Zirulia, P.zza Università - Sassari, by the 15th of January 2018 for the candidates admitted to the first session of the final examination or by the 10th of August 2018 for the candidates admitted to the second session of the final examination
